Days 11-13
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we explored the beautiful city of Dresden. The Frauenkirche, the Zwinger, the Neustadt and Schlosskirche are a few of the sights we visited. We had the opportunity to see Dresden’s many museums, which are considered some of the best in the world. Back home for family weekend and repacking for Berlin!

Day 10
It’s said that the best way to learn is to teach. We were invited to an elementary school to be native speaker examples for the children. They interviewed us - questions like “What is your favorite color? Do you have a pet? If so how many and what are their names?” were typical. We had a great time!
Look for another installment on Friday after our three days in Dresden.

Day 9
Lignite – also known as “brown coal“– it’s almost everywhere around Leipzig. We visited a Tagebau (open cast mine) today and learned how lignite is gathered and transported. The energy produced from this mine’s coal supports the entire Leipzig area and often part of the grid of Germany. We noticed that the air smells clean, and it is clear. When the company finishes harvesting the coal the law requires them to landscape and restore the quality of the soil where the mine was. MIBRAG (the company Mitteldeutsche Braunkohle AG) is actually an American company.
PS: Three of the pictures today were taken last week at the scavenger hunt (we finally have all entries!!!). Tomorrow we go to an elementary school.

Day 7 & 8
Weekend fun - here are some pictures. More later...

Day 5
Today we discovered more of Leipzig. The guided tour in the Old Townhall also included the basements with torture chambers and cells from the Middle Ages. We tried some of the instruments - nobody got hurt!

Day 4
Paddeln – Pirates of the Caribbean we weren’t but pretty good with the help of Herr Schulze, our coach. The Lake Cospuden is right behind the school and the P.E. department owns canoes. After two hours of paddling bratwurst and steak were waiting for us plus homemade side dishes. We ate and then returned using a shortcut Herr Schulze hadn’t shown us before. Many of us will go to bed early tonight.

Day 3
Take a look at our new red GAPP Tshirts! Designed by Sergei, they were presented to us this (Tuesday) morning. On the front is a plane flying to Markkleeberg and on the back are all the GAPPers' names. Also in the photo is the RHS Jahrbuch (yearbook) and we all have our own copy. The photos show the teams for the Schnitzeljagd (scavenger hunt) which required the students to find and take photos of points of interest in Leipzig. Mal sehen!
Let's see what the results are!
The photos are attached.
Flashback to Tuesday
We now have the entries of the scavenger hunt and can share some of the pictures with you. There were 25 things to find and to photograph in Leipzig's city center, from the statue of Bach and other points of interest to Pommes rot-weiss (French fries with ketchup and majo). The groups turned out to be very creative. But see for yourself.

Day 1
We’re here in Germany now. Our host-families met us in Markkleeberg and we felt right at home. We have been on the move since we arrived. On the move or sleeping, that is. We all slept well Sunday afternoon-evening-night.
